Former WEC middleweight Jake Rosholt (6-1) not only notched his first UFC win on UFC 102, he came away with submission of the night as well by choking out Chris Leben (now 18-6) in the third round. He may not be part of the title picture just yet but the former All-American wrestler gave the UFC another promising fighter in their back pocket.

Brock Lesnar’s primary training partner Chris Tuchscherer (17-2) failed to win on his UFC debut last Saturaday as he got smashed by Gabriel Gonzaga (11-4) in the second round. If there’s any positive that cane out of it, it was he showed resilience as he fought on after he was kicked in the crotch by Gonzaga.

Will he get another shot at a named fighter? My guess is yes since the Heavyweight division is perhaps the shallowest weight class in spite of all the signings they made, and with Brock Lesnar as his buddy i’m sure he has some kind of leverage.

Fil-am sensation Brandon Vera outclassed Krzyzstof Soszynsky last Saturday. I’m not sure though if he did enough to get in the mix in the very deep 205 lb. division.

Another UFC event is looming on the horizon and I’m here once again to give some exposure to the less heralded fights on the card (UFC 102). First on my list is the fight between TUF 8 Alum Krzysztof Soszynski and our very own Fil-am Muay Thay specialist Brandon Vera.

Both guys need this win to gain some ground on one of the deepest divisions in the UFC (Light Heavyweight). Vera (10-3) is coming off of a devastating win over Mike Patt in UFC 96. And if its any indication of things to come, it’s going to be a long night (or a short one) for Soszynski (18-8) come fight night. If Vera comes in sharp, there is no way Soszynski can deal with him.
