UFC 100 Results

ufc_100_poster

This card definitely lived up to the hype which is quite rare for a UFC Card. Add to the fact that I went two out of three with my prediction makes it even more satisfying. Anyways, here are the results from the main fights

Dan Henderson vs. Mike Bisping:

Bisping talked a good game but that was it, talk. He could’ve given Henderson some trouble with his speed but his lack of power and the fact that he would always circle right into Henderson’s right hand sealed his fate as Henderson caught him flush on the chin in the second round. Dan also smacked Bisping in the face one more time after he was knocked out, brutal. Dan Henderson wins by knockout in Round 2 (official time 3:20)

George St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves:

GSP utterly dominated the very game Brazilian from start to finish. Took him down whenever he felt like it and rarely gave Alves the opportunity to stand with him. You cannot fault Alves for not trying because he kept on coming until the final bell. He scrambled like crazy and even had GSP on the ground for quite some time in the third round. But as expected, GSP’s wrestling was just too much even for the much bigger Alves. GSP wins by unanimous decision (total shutout)

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir:

Just like what I said the other day, the first match wouldn’t mean anything at all. Frank came in very relaxed and felt that he could just put Lesnar in the same predicament as their first meeting. And boy was he wrong!  Brock was very composed on the ground as he prevented Mir from mounting any kind of attack. In the first round, Lesnar controlled Mir’s neck and just pummeled him until the end of the round. The second round was not that different. Mir hit Brock with a couple of right hands but made a mistake by doing the flying knee when Lesnar went for the single leg takedown. Lesnar went on to control Mir’s left wrist that left him defenseless, he then pummeled away as the official stops the bout. Brock Lesnar wins by knockout (stoppage) at 1:48 mark of round two.

UFC 100 Fight Predictions:

Dan Henderson vs. Mike Bisping:

After several weeks of putting up with the loquacious Bisping as coach of Team USA in the just concluded season of The Ultimate Fighter, Dan Henderson will finally get a chance to put his hands on UK finest fighter to date. One of the best wrestler there is in MMA, it’s no secret that Henderson will take Bisping down from the get go. In response, Bisping said Henderson could not take him down and that he’ll knock out the former Pride Champ. He can talk the talk, but if guys like Wanderlei Silva (in his prime) can’t knock Dan out, I don’t think he will.

Prediction: Henderson by knock out (Round 2)

George St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves:

As dominant as he was against the great BJ Penn, it is in no way an indication as to what will transpire in tonight’s welterweight title match. GSP’s bread and butter are his wrestling and ground and pound. It has served him well against ordinary welterweights. But ordinary is something Alves isn’t. Alves, who walks around at over 200 pounds is as big a welterweight as they come and will present a lot of challenges for GSP. However, I still believe GSP will outlast the young pit bull.

Prediction: GSP by unanimous decision

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir:

Forget about what happened the last time because it won’t matter anymore. Frank has significantly improved his stand up game so Brock won’t be able to catch him with those straight leads and Brock should be more relaxed when he finds himself in a tight spot with a couple fights under his belt since that loss. Both men have a lot to prove so what it all boils down to who wants it more. Brock is a big favorite but I’m going out on a limb to say that Mir will take this.

Prediction: Mir by submission (Round 3)

I’ll be back later tonight after the smoke has cleared. Peace!
