Kimbo Slice

If you haven’t watched any of the first 2 episodes of TUF 10, now is the best time to start watching as former youtube sensation and EliteXC fighter Kimbo Slice will face off against the former IFL Heavyweight Champion in Roy Nelson. Nelson, coming off a 2 fight losing streak against former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski and Jeff Monson (respectively) will definitely come in extremely motivated. Has Kimbo improved his game at all since entering the world of MMA? We’ll see this Wednesday.

Antonio Silva

Former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva (13-1) re introduced himself to the MMA world after submitting Jim York in the just concluded Sengoku 10. We  might see “Big Foot” back in the US as there are talks that he could be next in line for a shot at Fedor after Brett Rogers.

Jay Silva

Jay Silva (5-2) might have lost on his UFC debut against CB Dolloway in UFC Fight Night 19, but he sure has some awesome tattoos.

Frank Trigg

Frank Trigg’s return to UFC didn’t turn out to be a pleasant one for him as Josh Koscheck proved too much for him. Will he still get an opportunity at the title after this loss? Perhaps not, but I would still love to see him atleast one more time. I think he deserves another chance.

Vitor Belfort

The highly anticipated main event match between Vitor Belfort and Ace Franklin proved to be a mismatch as the former smashed the latter to mark a successful return to the Ocatagon. The question now is what do the UFC do with Franklin after this loss and is 185 really the best weight for Belfort to fight in?

UFC 103 Predictions

ppv-ufc-103-header

This Sunday’s UFC card might not be as stacked as the previous ones but there are a few fights that are really interesting and as Mike Goldberg would say, “And here we go!”

Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca (Lightweights)

This one has fight of the night written all over it. It might be a cliché but it rings very true that these guys always come to fight. Though Franca is an excellent grappler it will be interesting if he can take Griffin to the ground. Griffin has an excellent sprawl and knows how to keep the fight standing up where he has a slight advantage over Franca. I like Griffin on this one, at the same time the former WEC champion (Franca) will be a handful which means this is going to be an exciting one.

 Prediction: Griffin by unanimous decision

Mirko CroCop vs. Junior Dos Santos (Heavyweights)

I highly doubt it if any of these guys will receive a title shot after winning this one but it is still an exciting match up nonetheless. In a weird, twisted kind of way, this is not only a chance for Crocop to creep back into title contention but it will be an opportunity to exact revenge for his former grappling coach Fabricio Werdum who was knocked out senseless by the heavy handed youngster in Junior Dos Santos. It will be easier said than done as Crocop is nowhere near the level he once was and Dos Santos is quickly learning the game and is getting better by the day. It’s just a shame because we don’t get to see him fight that long because he always knocks people out within the first few minutes and I highly doubt that this one will get past the first round as someone is bound to get knocked out early. I’ve always been a Crocop fan and I want him to succeed but I think his time has passed as an elite contender. If he has something left in the tank and wins, I’ll be more than happy to eat crow.

Prediction: Dos Santos by KO in the first round.

Vitor Belfort vs. Rich Franklin (Catchweight 195 lbs.)

I don’t know about you guys but I can’t wait to see Belfort back in the Octagon. Make no mistake about it though; he’s going to have to be as sharp as he was against Matt Linland because Rich Franklin is going to present a lot of interesting challenges for him. Rich is a unique fighter because he is as well rounded as anyone could be, yet he isn’t dominant in any aspect. It will be interesting how he’ll deal with Vitor’s hand speed and power. Franklin has a pretty good chin but Anderson Silva proved to all of us that Rich has a hard time against quick fighters. Belfort might not be as elusive as Silva but as far as hand speed and KO power goes, Vitor is at par with the middleweight champ. Franklin is one of my favorite fighters but I’m confident Vitor Belfort will punctuate his return to the UFC by knocking out one of the best in Rich Franklin.

Prediction: Vitor Belfort wins by 2nd round KO.

Roger Huerta and Gray Maynard prediction

Maynard-Huerta

A few hours from now, the co-main event of the night which is Huerta and Maynard will resolve the issue of perhaps who the number one contender for the lightweight title really is. Though the UFC could find itself in the tight spot if Huerta wins since he seems hell bent on leaving the UFC for the time being after this fight, mmy prediction is Maynard will win this one in a tightly contested unanimous decision.

Here’s another look at these two warriors.

Gray Maynard

Former TUF 5 Alum Gray Maynard (7-0) sees his fight with Roger Huerta as a huge step to be noticed in the talent heavy lightweight division. Although he admitted that he needs another win to warrant a title shot (should he win this one) against his TUF coach BJ Penn, he feels very confident that he will display this September 16 just how formidable and ready he is for the big fights.

Ricardo Arona

Former Pride Light-Heavyweight Ricardo Arona will be back in action as he will try to outclass fellow veteran Marvin Eastman.  Arona, always thought of as a bit of an enigma as he hasn’t lived up to his potential until now tried to stir the pot as he recently made a comment that he can beat any light-heavyweight out there including UFC Champ Lyoto Machida. I’m not saying he can’t but if i were him i wouldn’t look past Eastman. If he wins in stunning fashion, then he can really talk.

Roger Huerta

UFC seems to be taking a bit of a risk in promoting Roger Huerta’s (20-2) last fight in his contract against undefeated Gray Maynard (7-0) that will take place in UFC Fight Night on September 16. Why? Well, as good as Maynard is, Huerta is someone that has name recognition and has a following and if he wins (which is a strong possibility) and walks away from the fight game (more of a certainty at this point) for Hollywood, the UFC will be left with an empty bag.
