Cristiane Santos / Evangelista Santos

Cyborg 2

If Cristiane can do this to his husband who is an excellent fighter in his own right, i have no doubt in my mind that Gina Carano will be destroyed August 15. I just hope Gina stays pretty after she gets smashed.

Cyborg and Evangelista

I wonder how these guys settle their differences? What we know is her training couldn’t be harder than the match itelf as Evangelista pushes Cristiane hard in training camp.

If there was someone who benefited from Affliction Trilogy’s cancellation it was Strikeforce as they just added another title match for their August 15 card headlined by Gina Carano and Cyborg Santos. What am I talking about? It’s the much anticipated light heavyweight showdown between Stikeforce Champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Gegard Mousasi who has destroyed an array of fighters in the Japan the last couple of years. Babalu is still considered as the favorite but I have a feeling Mousasi will win by submission in the third round.

Gilbert Yvel

The cancellation of an event as big as Affliciton Trilogy is a big blow to all MMA fans. Aside from the fact that we will miss out on the Heavyweight showdown between the Legendary Fador Emilianenko and number 1 contender Josh Barnett, we’ll also miss out on another heavyweight match-up that would surely entertain everyone. The one that features former UFC Heavyweight contender Paul Buentello and the always game Gilbert Yvel (pictured above). There have been rumors that some of the fights will be added to a Strikeforce card in the future. That’s an intriguing possibility but that’s what it is at this point. Rumors.

We’ll talk about some of the other fights that have been cancelled in the coming days.

LC Davis

With the MMA world still stunned by the unexpected pull-out by Josh Barnett from the main event of Affliction Trilogy due to a suspension related to performance enhancing drugs allegedly found in his urine sample. A lot of people are speculating whether Tom Atencio will still push through with the event. Atencio in response said the show will go on though they haven’t found a replacement just yet (Vitor Belfort already agreed in principle to fight Fedor). So at this point it’s still up in the air who’ll fight in the Main Event opposite Fedor. What we can count on though is an exciting featherweight matchup between Javier “Showtime” Vasquez and LC Davis.

Both guys might be well versed in Jiu jitsu but both are equally comfortable on their feet as well. Riding on a 4 game winning streak, I’ll pick Vazquez (13-2-0) to win against Davis (13-2-0) by submission by the second round.

One of the great pioneers in the sport, Kimo Leopoldo was reported dead yesterday due to a heart attack. Good news is, according to his publicist, Kimo called for a press conference scheduled tomorrow to show everyone that he is alive and well.

Known for his WWE type persona in the early days of the UFC, Kimo was the first fighter to give Royce Gracie fits when they fought in UFC 3. Although he lost via submission (arm lock), he forced Royce to pull out of the tournament as he was completely worn out after the win.

The last time Kimo fought was when he lost to one of the TUF 10 Heavyweights, Wes Sims in Extreme Wars 5 Battleground via TKO in the very first round. Although his best days as a fighter are behind him, Kimo (10-7-1 record) is still a very prominent figure in the MMA world as one of its founding fathers.

Jay Hieron

Looking forward to entertain fight fans once more in Affliction Trilogy

After stealing the show with probably one of the most stunning knock outs in MMA for the past year in Affliction’s second card “Day of Reckoning”. Jay Hieron is looking forward to another highlight reel type victory over Paul Daley. The former IFL Welterweight champ’s match with Jason High was supposed to be televised but is was eventually pushed out of the card and boy did they make a big mistake.

That’s why Affliction big boss Tom Atencio made sure he’ll be part of the televised card. Affliction Trilogy will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim California on August 1.

With UFC 100 now behind us, let’s take a look at one of the matchups that is a bit intriguing for the next UFC outing on August 8. Everybody has been talking about the main event which is Penn vs. Florian. But let’s put that aside for a moment and talk about one of my favorite fighters. Kendall Grove, the winner of TUF season 3 is somewhat of an underachiever considering his well rounded fight game and ridiculous range for a middleweight (6’6 tall). Sporting a 10-5 win loss record, he will have another chance to be significant in the middleweight division at UFC 101 against Pancrase and Pride veteran Ricardo Almeida. Though no one will be clamoring for a Silva vs. Grove match up even if he wins in dominating fashion, a win will at least guarantee that he’ll fight in the UFC again.
